It’s been a busy few months away from the pool with a number of our members taking up various open water challenges near and far, in varying conditions.
An early start in the season saw Sophie Matthews and Karen Mee team up for the Great North Endurance Swim Run based around Lake Windermere. Comprising 39kms across 7 swims totalling 4400m chilly conditions, and 6 runs in challenging terrain, Sophie and Karen were only one of 3 female teams, with an impressive 11th place overall finish on their debut SwimRun event.
In late June, Helen Hollins successfully completed Chillswim Lake Conniston 5.25 mile event in good conditions.
Early July saw a team of KM swimmers of Scott Lathrope, Mike Pagan, Sarah Pagan, Karen Mee, Helen Thurlow and Helen Hollings successfully complete the Chillswim Lake Ullswater 7.5mile swim in challenging conditions. A stand out performance by Scott Lathrope to finish 2nd overall male & 1st in age group wetsuit category. Top 10 age group positions were also achieved by Sarah Pagan and Karen Mee.
Returning to the Lake District in late August 2024 saw Karen Mee and Helen Hollings successfully completing the Chillswim Lake Windermere 12 mile swim. Conditions were stunning, seeing Helen complete the Triple Crown for the season and with Karen Mee finishing 7th in age group.
A great social event was enjoyed by members at Lenches Lake to mark the end of the Summer season, taking on distances of 1 mile, 800m and 400m. Members old and new took to the open water, with some superb novice open water swims.
