Kenilworth Masters Swimming club proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the Midlands area this weekend as they competed at the annual Midlands Masters Swimming Championships at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Sports Centre in Rugby.
After two days of competitive racing following a very impressive turn out from the club, the medal haul began to stack up. 32 Kenilworth Masters swimmers entered a total of 131 events and won 58 individual Golds, 15 Silvers and 10 Bronze medals. 20 relay teams also competed and every single one managed a top 3 place. 11 Golds, 8 Silvers and 1 Bronze.
Trevor Clarke swam the outstanding performance of the weekend, achieving a new Great British Record in the 65-70 100 metres Individual medley in a time of 1:15.27, bettering the old record by 6 tenths of a second. All this whilst personally competing in an exhausting total of 13 events across the weekend.
As hard training recommences, the weekend’s inspiring performance puts the team in a strong position for the British Masters Short Course Championships in October, with other British Records in tantalising reach.
